Job summary
The Respiratory Physiology service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has an opportunity to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic individual to the role of Clinical Physiologist (Band 5).
The role is primarily based at the Community Diagnostic Centre in Willesden, but involves rotation to lung function labs on other sites and the Sleep Centre. You will join a busy, friendly multidisciplinary team including physiologists, clinical scientists, administrators and consultants.
In lung function, the post-holder will be responsible for performing standard lung function tests, including spirometry, gas transfer and lung volume measurements on our diverse patient population. Training will be provided for development of skills in further lung function tests including skin allergy tests and field exercise tests. When working in the Sleep Centre the postholder will be responsible for analysing respiratory sleep studies and CPAP monitoring clinics.
It is desirable for the successful applicant to have had some previous experience in lung function testing. It is essential to have a good science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science (respiratory major) or equivalent. It would be preferable if you have obtained the ARTP practitioners examination and are working towards RCCP registration.
Main duties of the job
- Perform standard lung function testing, unsupervised once training is completed, gaining accurate and clinical valuable measurements.
- Lead, educate and encourage patients in required test techniques, explaining the need for full co-operation and maximum effort in performing Lung Function tests by demonstrating the same physical effort and enthusiasm.
- Obtain reproducible and clinically meaningful results, acknowledging when to reject poor measurements and technical errors in order to gain the best and most accurate results.
- Assist in the efficient performance and administration of the Lung Function service and efforts to improve these.
- Assist departmental administrator to make patient appointments with minimal delay, whilst also scheduling and prioritising work.
- Maintain and repair departmental equipment in conjunction with senior staff and clinical engineering.
