Locum Pain Consultant

Job summary

We are seeking to recruit one Locum Pain Consultant to join our Pain Management Centre situated in Charing Cross Hospital. These post-holders will join a supportive and positive department with an excellent reputation for clinical care and teaching. You will join our team who are dedicated to improve sustained pain relief and promote public health. The post is predominantly Pain but there can be an Anaesthetic component.

Main duties of the job

The post will attract 10 PA per week for a whole-time contract - 8.5 DCC and 1.5 SPA.

8.5 PA per week of clinical related activities including pain management, MDT meetings and the possibility to support Anaesthetics and/or Acute Pain Management.

1.5 PA per week of Supporting Professional Activities - including audit, clinical governance, teaching, research, educational supervision of junior staff and CPD.

Qualifications

Essential

  • GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC's specialist register in anaesthesia in approved training post
  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Anaesthetists or equivalent
  • Achieved the competencies of 12 months advanced Pain training, as per RCOA guidelines or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • General training in Anaesthesia to stage 3 or equivalent and to specialist level in pain management or equivalent
  • Evidence of experience working in a Multidisciplinary chronic pain management setting
  • Evidence of minimum 6 months' work in the NHS

Leadership/ Management skills

Essential

  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Experience of working in a team and developing service improvement strategies

Teaching & Training

Essential

  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates / postgraduates and junior medical staff

Audit

Essential

  • Understanding of principles of clinical audit
  • Committed to monitoring and improving clinical quality
  • Committed to building a clinical practice that is evidence based

Language

  • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements
