Job summary
Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) deliver personalised care in line with NHS cancer plan, using holistic needs assessment (HNA) to meet changing needs.
Cancer CNSs make sure that people affected by cancer have access to the range of cancer resources and services available to them (financial, information, support, etc.), receive appropriately timed information and support and have access to a specialist cancer nurse throughout their entire cancer journey from diagnosis, through treatment to Living with and Beyond Cancer or end of life care.
Cancer CNSs actively engage with the cancer management team, the wider trust, RM Partners cancer alliance and other stakeholders as appropriate to continuously raise the profile of cancer nursing, promote patient centred services for patients affected by cancer, contribute to cancer care within their speciality and ensure high quality cancer care.
The Gestational Trophoblastic Disease and Rare Gynaecological Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team supports patients diagnosed and treated with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer and other rare gynaecological cancers within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. They work as a team of under the professional oversight of a Lead GTD and Rare Gynaecological Cancer CNS. They are a valued member of the GTD and Germ Cell Cancer Multidisciplinary team and advocate for patients being treated within this pathway.
Main duties of the job
- To work as autonomous practitioners providing specialist nursing advice, care and support, facilitating high quality, individualised care to patients and those important to them.
- To be aware of their own limitations and recognise the parameters of scope of practice of themselves and other's.
- To provide support to inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets and initiatives.
- To promote a culture that delivers patient centred care throughout the pathway, contributing to improved patient experience.
- To act as a professional role model, providing expert direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, research and leadership. They require knowledge, skills and behaviours across all four pillars of advancing practice.
