Paediatric Infectious Diseases Department is the largest of its kind in London, delivering both elective and non-elective activity, at a local, secondary and tertiary level. This internationally renowned, academically led, service includes speciality paediatric infectious diseases clinics for HIV; TB; Hepatitis; congenital infections; complex infections; vaccine advice, auto-inflammatory fever syndromes, recurrent infections and Kawasaki's disease. It provides specialist clinical input to neonatal and paediatric intensive care units, as well as specialist paediatric services. The service is responsible for paediatric antibiotic policies, and antimicrobial stewardship. The service is an NHSE commissioned paediatric centre for airborne and contact High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID).

Main duties of the job

This post holder will be expected to:

  • Work with Infection Prevention & Control, and Microbiology to support children and neonatal teams during any outbreak investigations and management.
  • Undertake Paediatric ID clinics as per the job plan
  • Support SPRs with day case review service
  • Undertake consultant ward attending duties for 16 weeks in 12 months; this includes responsibility for external and internal advice and guidance calls.
  • Undertake Antimicrobial stewardship rounds as per the rota
  • Undertake on call for Paediatric ID in a 1:6 rota
  • Lead the Perinatal Infection Service with support from the outgoing lead Prof Hermione Lyall
  • Contribute to the educational, clinical governance and research programmes within the department

The 10 PA job includes 2PA of SPA

This NHS post will strengthen the resilience of the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Team, which is currently heavily dependent on the academic team for clinical support. This post will enable the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Team, to more effectively support paediatric and neonatal services within the West London Childrens Alliance, as well as more broadly across NW London ICB. This postholder will join the acute attending rota, covering the ward and providing advice and guidance for WLCH and external consults.
