Job summary

If you decide to join us, you will have the opportunity to work with complex post-operative oncology surgical patients, step down patients from critical care unit, termination of pregnancy, complex early pregnancy patients, and day surgery patients and enhance your surgical and gynaecological nursing skills in a supportive environment.

You will have a planned, well-supported orientation period with a named band 6 mentor and our practice educator. This will ensure you have enough time to get familiar with our patient group, pathway and caseload.

You will also have opportunity to rotate to different gynaecology specialities, day surgery unit to expand your knowledge and skills in gynaecological and oncology nursing.

Working in gynaecology will help you to develop and expand your skills further in stoma management, pain management, patient rehabilitation and education, pre-operative assessment clinics and complex discharge planning.

We welcome nurses who have a ward based experience and looking forward to expand their skills in surgical nursing.

We welcome you to have an informal walk around our Victor Bonney Ward.

Main duties of the job

  • To develop and maintain the highest specialised nursing care to all patients undergoing gynaecological investigations and procedures, providing a high level of information and support.
  • To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning, deliver and evaluation of direct patient care of patients on the ward and in the Day Unit.
  • To liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and services users related to Victor Bonney Ward and Day-Unit
  • To support the Ward Manager and Senior Staff Nurses to monitor the safety and quality of care for patients.
  • In the absence of the Ward Manager and Senior Staff Nurses, be responsible for the day-to-day management of the ward.
