Senior Physiologist

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

The respiratory physiology service has an opportunity to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic individual to the role of Senior Clinical Physiologist. This is a hybrid role, working between the Trust-based lung function labs and the integrated care service, providing support to the community respiratory clinics. You will join a busy, friendly, multidisciplinary team including physiologists, clinical scientists, administrators and consultants.

In lung function, the post-holder will be responsible for performing a range of standard and complex lung function tests. As part of the cross-site rota, there will be the opportunity to work in the Sleep Centre at Charing Cross Hospital to develop, or maintain skills in respiratory polygraphy analysis and CPAP compliance clinics. We also host PTP and STP students, so there is the opportunity to be involved in teaching.

In the integrated care role, you will support the community teams with ARTP accreditation and portfolios. The postholder will be required to proactively contribute to the wider development of the service, coordinating delivery of the community spirometry clinics and developing the diagnostic hubs.

It is essential for the successful applicant to have had previous experience in lung function testing, with a good science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science (respiratory major) or equivalent. It would be desirable if you have obtained the ARTP practitioners examination and are working towards AHCS equivalence.

Main duties of the job

  • The Physiologist will provide diagnostic lung function tests, domiciliary oxygen assessment and occasionally support home NIV.
  • To facilitate and assist the provision of high quality respiratory care to all adult respiratory patients alongside the consultants and nurses in respiratory medicine in a variety of settings to promote respiratory health within ICHT and the surrounding community service including the community diagnostic hubs.
  • There will be an educational component to provide teaching and advice to the multi-disciplinary team and wider primary care and community providers.
  • The work of the post holder must be reliable, accurate and to a high professional standard. The information obtained is used to assign the diagnosis of disease and to identify treatment regimes.
  • The post holder is also responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all equipment including therapeutic/diagnostic equipment issued for use in the patients' home and community settings.
