Job summary
This is an opportunity to give newly qualified or more experienced Physician Associates the chance to work in a progressive neurology speciality at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
You will assess and examine patients, manage a specific caseload of patients, present them, initiate and interpret investigations and recommend treatment, whilst exercising a high level of professional judgment and expertise when delivering care. You will be supervised by a designated consultant and work alongside a highly-trained and committed team of doctors and nurses, working collaboratively with other members of the clinical team within the Trust's policies and clinical guidelines
It is expected that the Physician Associates will become involved in the activities of the Department, including review of inpatients, assessment of acute admissions (including through Accident and Emergency), practical procedures and outpatient clinics. It would be envisaged that the role would be developed flexibly over time in accordance with the appointee's ability and interests.
Successful applicants will undergo an induction programme to help them adapt their skills and knowledge to the service.

The Physician Associate role works closely alongside the medical and nursing teams within the department of neurology managing patients with a full-range of conditions including:- MS and other neuro-inflammatory conditions, movement disorders, meningo-encephalitis (including auto-immune encephalitis), cerebral mass lesions, peripheral neuropathies, MND, myasthenia gravis, seizure disorders, neurovascular disease, and headache
Main duties of the job
- To assess and examine patients, order appropriate investigations, interpret investigation findings, form a list of differential diagnoses and recommend management/treatment accordingly.
- To assess, review daily and discharge patients.in line with the MDT management plans
- Maintain timely and appropriate documentation.
- Instruct and counsel patients and their relatives with regard to mental and physical health issues.
- Have, develop and maintain specialist medical knowledge related to neurology
- Keep up to date with current guidelines and maintain best practice.
- Contribute to achieving and maintaining performance within the hospital and department.
- To contribute to the development of efficient pathways of care in accordance with current best practice and national guidelines.
- Support the department development of clinical guidelines within their specialist area for use with the Trust by other staff.
