Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 SACT trained nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility. The unit is a NHS research facility at Hammersmith Hospital in west London. It is located at the heart of one of the UK's most research-intensive universities, Imperial College. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work together to investigate disease and trial the latest scientific ideas for improving diagnosis and treatment. The CRF provides comfortable clinical accommodation for volunteers and patients participating in studies requiring 24h in-house monitoring as well as facilities for day case visits. It is equipped to cater for complex studies from across the range of medical disciplines and provides close proximity space for clinical research fellows, nurses and allied healthcare professionals

Our portfolio of early phase oncology and haematology studies is increasing and we are therefore looking for a motivated, skillful and knowledgeable SACT trained nurse, who works well as part of a team. Knowledge of clinical research is favorable but not essential.

Although the post holder would focus on oncology and haematology studies using ChemoCare, you would be also be expected to support other trials with patients or healthy volunteers in the ICRF. Working with genetically modified organisms may form part of the activities you may become involved in. You will always be provided with training and support to deliver the required care. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8.00-16.00 or 12.00-20.00 or night 19.45-08.15. We are closed over the weekend.

Main duties of the job

  • The aim of this job is to provide best care to volunteers and patients participating in clinical research studies in the Imperial Clinical Research Facility (ICRF) with a focus on oncology and haematology trials.
  • You are expected to carry out procedures and investigations on research participantsaccording to study protocol, Trust and local policies. Procedures include administration of Trial drugs, monitoring participants' progress, continuous assessment of participants' health, and collecting and processing blood and other biological samples.
  • You will also be expected to lead on some studies. This may involve setting up studies with the required documents and approvals, monitor and support recruitment, organise participants' visits and schedules, and record, report and follow up progress and plans in collaboration with project managers and other staff.. You are expected to supervise nursing staff and allied healthcare professionals assigned to and working on studies you lead on.
  • The post holder is expected to remain up to date with Trust and local policies and help support the unit's quality accounts by continuous auditing and developing standards. You are expected to continue developing yourself professionally and academically by utilising the relevant training and support opportunities available.
