Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust invites applicants to apply for the position of a Trust Registrar in Head and Neck Surgery. The post is based primarily at the Charing Cross Hospital campus in Fulham and will be for a 6 month fixed period commencing at the earliest, on 1st February 2025. The vacancy is due to a gap in a recognised training position because of personal circumstances. Therefore, the post meets the educational criteria at specialty training level and will have 1:1 direct consultant supervision.

This post is suitable for a registrar who is interested in acquiring further sub-specialist experience in Head and Neck surgery. This is an ideal developmental opportunity for someone looking to further their experience and gain sub-specialist skills at registrar level in ENT to further their career. Previous NHS ENT experience and ability cover ENT emergencies at registrar level are essential.

The successful post holder will receive Consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development as a Head and Neck surgeon and will be expected to be fully registered with a Licence to Practise from the General Medical Council. Main duties of the job

This post holder will be expected to work as a member of the Head and Neck Cancer multidisciplinary team. This will involve providing outpatient care and both inpatient and day surgery diagnostic and surgical treatment services. The post is based primarily at Charing Cross campus with some clinics at the St Mary's site.

Charing Cross Hospital is a major Tertiary Referral Centre for Head and Neck Oncology and Skull Base Surgery and is the National Centre for Adult Airway Reconstruction. This post will allow the successful candidate to further their knowledge and experience in Head and Neck Oncological surgery, benign Head and Neck Surgery and Adult Laryngology. There will be opportunity to develop clinical and operative skills in major complex cancer resection and reconstruction, skull base surgery, transoral robotic surgery (TORS) and endoscopic techniques and sufficient time will be available to carry out research in Head and Neck cancer. An intercollegiate examination, or equivalent, in the relevant speciality and previous Head and Neck surgery experience are essential.

The role offers a well-balanced exposure to all aspects of head and neck cancer extirpative surgery and benign tumour surgery. Input into the academic activity of the department is encouraged. There will also be an important service provision component with both operating lists and outpatient clinics, as well as the middle tier on-call rota (approximate on-call frequency for ENT-in-general, 1:7)
