Job summary

Our Clinical Education Team is committed to developing patient care and patient experience through enhanced clinical skills and teamwork. We deliver high quality training, including 'on the job' coaching, competency based development programmes and study events.

The Clinical Education Team (CET) is currently recruiting for a Band 7 Clinical Practice Educator to develop within the team. This is a Trust wide position and the successful candidate will deliver education on 3 of Imperial's prestigious hospital sites (St Mary's, Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals). The post also offers the opportunity to work in an Academic Health Science Centre and a Pathway to Excellence accredited hospital.

The job is varied, demanding and requires exceptional motivational and leadership skills, together with outstanding, evidence based, clinical practice. In return, you will be continually enhancing and refining your own clinical skills as you coach and develop others. In addition to 'on the job' coaching in the clinical areas, each team member works on site specific and cross site projects related to service needs and areas of interest and expertise.

Prior formal teaching experience is not essential as there will be opportunities for further development. However, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm for the opportunities the post will bring, a desire to make a difference to improving the care of surgical patients in our Trust and commitment to the team, are absolutely essential. The post holder will require a strong work ethic, be self- critical and able to recognise their own limitations and areas for development.

We are a very supportive team; we work hard and we set ourselves high standards. We can guarantee excitement, variety and the chance to be involved in the development of education within Imperial Healthcare NHS Trust.

If you enjoy the unexpected, can work independently, as well as in a team, work well under pressure and have excellent interpersonal skills, then we would like to hear from you. You should be a Registered Nurse, have substantial experience in the surgical environment and some critical care skills, and have current experience of running a team.

Main duties of the job

  • To maintain an effective educational environment through 'on the job' coaching and staff development in a variety of clinical settings, whilst working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to enable delivery of high quality effective care, thus improving the patients' experience
  • To act as an expert practitioner, resource and role model; to encourage evidence based practice, providing support and supervision for all staff, including those on professional development courses
  • To be responsible for the development of programmes of education and training; whilst demonstrating awareness of cultural and learning diversity in the workplace
  • To collaborate with strategy development and be responsible for the achievement of educational targets. The post holder will contribute to ensuring a conducive work environment and he/she will be a change agent with a strong professional and clinical focus
