Are you a graduate who is interested in a career in medical physics? We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic individual as an Assistant Physicist - Healthcare Science Practitioner.
This post provides an ideal starting point for someone wishing to pursue a career as a Healthcare Science Practitioner or who may wish to gain experience prior to applying for the Clinical Scientist training (STP) in Medical Physics. The post will involve practical work including assisting with; delivery of I-131 therapies, QA on radiotherapy units, planning and QA of external beam radiotherapy and brachytherapy. The department has excellent experience in education and training in medical physics, and hosts the London North Medical Physics Training Consortium.
The service has five Varian TrueBeam linacs, a CT scanner, an Xstrahl unit and an Elekta Flexitron HDR brachytherapy unit. The department delivers stereotactic cranial radiotherapy (SRS) and SABR for a range of sites. Planning is carried out on Raystation, Eclipse, Elements (SRS) and Oncentra Brachy. You will participate in the roll out of projects being undertaken by the department, including AI for auto-contouring.
The Radiation Physics &Radiobiology Department has close links with Imperial College and departmental staff deliver medical physics modules on M.Sc. programmes.
Main duties of the job
Assist with the provision of technical and scientific support to all aspects of the work of the Radiation Physics Department
Assist with the measurement of radiation output from treatment machines such as high-energy linear accelerators and high-activity radioactive sources used to produce therapeutic radiation beams.
Assist with quality assurance of treatment machines.
Assist with computerised treatment planning, for patients undergoing radiation therapy for cancer.
Assist with the delivery of the radioiodine service (I-131 service).
Assist with on-going projects within the department such as SABR, SRS & IGRT, SGRT, AI auto contouring/planning and radiobiology.
