Job summary

Term time only (fixed term)

The North West London Virtual Hospital (NWLVH) is recruiting experienced band 6 practitioners to provide virtual care and monitoring to patients. The team are based at St Charles Hospital in Ladbroke Grove. Patients remain at home and care is delivered over the telephone and via digital applications. Individuals should have solid clinical knowledge as a registered nurse or AHP, although any specialist clinical background is welcome. No specific IT or remote monitoring experience is required training will be provided but an aptitude for technology is an advantage.

The NWLVH undertakes remote monitoring of a variety of patients from across all four North West London acute hospitals. We cover a range of pathways, including cardiology, respiratory, IBD, diabetes, maternity and acute medicine. Currently we have 19 virtual wards live with a range of SOPs that guide our clinical reviews and we are in the process of developing more pathways. Virtual wards as a substitute for inpatient care, as well as more long term remote monitoring pathways, are being established across the country. This is a great opportunity to be part of a move away from traditional models of care, towards a more sustainable future within the NHS.

This is a novel and evolving service and therefore flexibility and a sense of humour are essential. In return, we can offer a flexible and fun working environment, with a flat hierarchy and a commitment to shared decision making.

Main duties of the job

The main elements of the role include:

Accessing digital applications and using Cerner

Reviewing patient observations and symptoms remotely

Conducting telephone assessments

Providing clinical and technical advice to patients

Attending MDTs and presenting patients

This is a virtual environment, and may suit staff who are otherwise unable to work face to face with patients for any reason. Some remote working is also possible although the post is mainly based at St Charles. The NWLVH is supported by a network of multi professional teams across our acute and community partners, and opportunities will also be available to keep up or develop patient facing clinical skills. There are plenty of bespoke formal and informal training and development opportunities. We are looking to strengthen the diversity of our team and therefore applications from AHPs or midwives are particularly welcome.

This is an annualised hours post, designed for term time working only. The post holder will work compressed hours (less than full time), in order to have all school holidays off as a combination of annual leave and time owing, with a consistent salary. We are committed to genuinely flexible working and a variety of shift patterns are possible. The service runs 0800-2000, 7 days a week.
