A unique opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 trainee Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our dynamic Nuclear Medicine and PET CT team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

The training programme that you will be completing has both academic components and a clinical workplace training component within the department eventually leading to a Post Graduate diploma in Nuclear Medicine. The course is run by the University of Salford and you will be fully supported to attend this hybrid ran course. This practitioner pathway has a strong emphasis on delivering new and emerging technologies and is suitable for science and healthcare graduates who have an interest in applying science to patient care.
Nuclear Medicine Practitioners work in a team alongside other professionals and undertake a range of roles within Nuclear Medicine. They are involved in a range of activities within Nuclear Medicine involving the use of unsealed radioisotopes to image the body and treat disease, providing information about both structure and function. With the use of small quantities of radioactive materials (Radiopharmaceuticals) to image the body using gamma cameras and in treatment specialised radiopharmaceuticals target certain organs to be treated. This post will provide a wide range of training across patient imaging, radiopharmaceutical production and administration, along with Nuclear Medicine equipment operation and quality assurance programs.
The majority of the work within the training programme will include gaining experience and learning about the full range of equipment and techniques used in nuclear medicine. Trainees will be rotated with different staff across our department in order to develop their ability to apply a range of analytical and clinical applications to clinical patient care.
Applicants are welcome from any graduate of a health care related course. Non-traditional entry is considered on an individual basis although previous experience of working in health care would be an advantage. You should normally possess a 2:1 honours degree (or above) or a vocational award together with evidence of further learning. Please note that this is a designed as an entry into nuclear medicine, and therefore not suitable for candidates with a prior nuclear medicine qualification.
Successful candidates will have to be in post, enrolled and ready to start with University of Salford by September 2024.

- To provide an efficient and professional nuclear medicine service, maintaining a high standard of patient care.
- To ensure strict adherence to local rules governing the safe use of radiopharmaceuticals, both individually and amongst a multidisciplinary team
- To maintain a sensitive and courteous approach to patients.
- To develop and improve professional expertise via continuous professional development (CPD).
- To keep up to date with skills and knowledge, completing a postgraduate programme in nuclear medicine imaging.
