Job summary
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse key roles are;
To work in accordance to the Nursing and Midwifery Code and relevant professional guidelines and take responsibility for:
Providing positive clinical leadership, working collaboratively with the senior nurses and quality matron to promote high standards of patient care.
Being flexible in the approach to the clinical area, acting as a professional role model providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
Act as an expert practitioner, resource and role model to develop and maintain an effective educational environment using evidence based practice through teaching; training; coaching and development of all levels of staff, whilst demonstrating awareness of cultural diversity in the workplace. Enabling the delivery of high quality effective care to improve the patients' experience in a variety of clinical settings.
Demonstrate clinical knowledge and expertise at the level of specialist practice within the field of interventional radiology and imaging by keeping oneself up to date in issues related to specialty, developing, maintaining and utilising specialist skills and knowledge, including completing mandatory/annual training updates.
Act as source of interventional radiology and imaging nursing expertise within the department, across the Trust and as a representative of the Trust at a local and national level to ensure the quality and educational agenda is represented.
Main duties of the job
Job purpose
To provide a holistic and supportive role for patients undergoing diagnostic, interventional and follow up treatment within imaging. The role is to integrate with the Trust wide cancer MDT and highlight patients who may be seen within imaging. Facilitate high quality and individualised care to patients and relatives, both inpatients and outpatients, in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets.
Play a key role in the continuous development and running of the cancer imaging pathways, including specialist treatment and diagnostics within Interventional Radiology across the organisation. The post holder will work towards improvement of patient experience throughout the patient journey.
Using advanced nursing practice manage a cohort of patients referred for specialist intervention, care and support within cancer services. Act as professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
Demonstrate highly developed and advanced specialist cancer knowledge and skills through innovative practice leading to the development of increasing levels of autonomy.
