We are seeking experienced Echocardiographers to join our friendly team in the internationally renowned echocardiography department at Imperial Trust. The post-holder will be an advanced independent practitioner and will hold Adult Accreditation with either the BSE, the ASE, the EACVI or an equivalent credentialing body.
The cardiac investigations service offers a full spectrum of invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic investigations and is committed to developing staff and actively developing new roles to enhance service provision. The IQIPS accredited echocardiography service at Imperial incorporates a range of highly specialised echocardiographic investigations, including: paediatric and young person TTE, routine 3D and strain analysis (LV, RV and LA strain), specific cardio-oncology echo lists, LV contrast (LVO) and agitated saline bubble-studies, physiologist/scientist-led valve clinics, TOE in both diagnostic and structural intervention settings (mitral and tricuspid edge-to-edge repair, LAA occlusion, ASD/PFO closure and paravalvular leak closure), and a large stress echocardiography service that incorporates both physiologist and consultant led pharmacological and exercise bike tests for investigation of myocardial ischaemia, valve disease, cardiomyopathy and heart failure.
The Imperial Echo Department has a very strong emphasis on teaching/training of echocardiographers, specialist registrars, clinical fellows and MSc students and we support all level of physiologist/scientist training with students on all career pathways, including: PTP (including apprenticeship), ETP, STP and HSST. In addition, the echocardiography service has close links with Imperial College London University and plays a crucial role in the delivery of the highly successful MSc in Echocardiography. The department also has strong representation within the BSE, including two past presidents, the current vice-president, past chairs of the education committee and a number of accreditation assessors.
Our trust covers the acute sites of Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. In addition, we deliver a Community Diagnostic Centre service in Willesden as well as ** community echocardiography services in Ealing and Central/West London Community Cardiology such as Hanwell, Parkview, St. Charles and Maida Vale site. All of our community sites are well equipped with up-to-date imaging systems (Medcon) This post offers the opportunity to work in a stimulating environment, further develop your knowledge and skills to a very high level, participate in training and teaching, and be supported in maintaining your BSE accreditation. Main duties of the job
- The role is central to the extension of the community services. The post holder will rotate between the community and the Trust Echocardiography Departments at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and other cardiology departments across the Trust.
- The post holder will need to maintain their specialist knowledge of interventions such as stress echo (Dobutamine and Bike exercise echo) and transoesphageal echocardiograms, which are only performed in the Trust.
- As an advanced practitioner in Echocardiography the post holder will need to be able to independently perform a range of highly specialised cardiac ultrasound investigations, including adult and child transthoracic,3D/strain,contrast and bubble study echocardiogram,performing physiologist-led valve echo and assessment, Stress echocardiogram and assisting with transoesphageal echocardiogram. Performing accurate and reproducible measurements and quantification, interpret findings and independently issue (sign-off) final clinical-technically diagnostic reports, to a highly competent professional standard.
- The post holder will assist the Principal Echocardiographer to provide and organise the day-to-day clinical-technical services of the departments in the community and St.Mary's Hospital where appropriate
- This role also requires the physiologist to be able to supervise other non-invasive procedures (24hr tapes and blood pressures, assisting and sometimes performing Physiologists led exercise tests and also walk-in ECG's).
