Clinical Fellow in Luminal Endoscopy

Job summary

Candidates are invited to apply for a Fellowship in advanced luminal endoscopy. The successful candidate will gain exposure to and receive training in a number of advanced luminal endoscopy techniques including UGI EMR and Barrett's radio-frequency ablation, colonic EMR and advanced polypectomy, balloon enteroscopy and capsule endoscopy. There will be a minimum of two training lists per week. There is also the opportunity to gain experience in GI physiology and enhance their experience in IBD and nutrition as desired. They will also gain experience in unit management and governance and will have the opportunity to participate in research. It is hoped the candidate will also develop their teaching and training skills during the placement and will be encouraged to complete train the trainers course as appropriate. This role is for a Monday 2nd of September 2024 start date.

Applicants should be at or near the end of their specialist training, with full JAG sign off for upper GI endoscopy and be approaching or having completed full JAG sign off for colonoscopy, with audit data satisfying standard JAG auditable outcomes.

Candidates must have full MRCP or equivalent. Applicants must have demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013).

Main duties of the job

The duties of these posts include a service commitment of 5-6 lists per week of mixed endoscopy with flexible working to cover consultant leave and ward commitments. There will be the opportunity to attend 2 training lists per week in order to obtain experience in complex procedures e.g. UGI EUS, Barrett's RFA, Colorectal and UGI EMR and balloon enteroscopy. Candidates will also take part in the on call GI bleeding rota with associated banding supplement.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

Job responsibilities

Key areas of responsibilities

  • The post holder will work closely with other members of the team to ensure high quality luminal endoscopy and gastroenterology services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams
  • The post holder will perform 5-6 luminal endoscopy sessions per week, mostly backfilling available slots in the endoscopy schedule.
  • 2 teaching lists per week can be attended in order to obtain experience in complex procedures e.g. UGI EUS, Barretts RFA, Colorectal and UGI EMR and balloon enteroscopy
  • Attend the UGI and LGI MDT
  • Contribute to service development initiatives
  • Contribute to service governance and the clinical management of endoscopy
  • Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduates and junior medical staff
  • Participate in ongoing research within the department
  • Commitment to the out-of-hours endoscopy service at either SpR or Consultant level dependent on the seniority of the postholder
