Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is an academic health science centre and one of the largest NHS trusts in the country. Our mission is to provide world class healthcare for our patients through excellence in research, education and training. We are looking for a senior cardiac physiologist/clinical scientist to join our leadership team and work alongside the consultant cardiologist clinical lead for cardiac physiology and consultant clinical scientist service lead in the delivery of our cardiac science services.

The Imperial cardiology service provides a wide spectrum of tertiary-level invasive and non-invasive procedures and is committed to advancing its staff and actively developing new roles to enhance service provision. Holding IQIPS accreditation in echocardiography and ECG, the cardiac sciences service at Imperial undertakes a range of highly specialised tertiary level procedures with ongoing research programmes in both echocardiography, electrophysiology and devices.

There is a strong emphasis on education throughout the cardiac sciences service and we support all levels of physiologist/scientist training with students on all career pathways, including: PTP (including apprenticeship), ETP, STP and HSST. In addition, we support all of our cardiology registrar colleagues to achieve BSE accreditation and are closely linked with Imperial College University, playing a crucial role in the delivery of the highly successful MSc in Echocardiography.

Our trust covers the acute sites of Charing Cross Hospital, St Mary's Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital and we deliver a Community Diagnostic Centre service in Willesden as well as community echocardiography and ECG services in Hanwell, Maida Vale, St Charles and Parkview; all of our community sites are well equipped with up-to-date Phillips imaging systems. Our department is highly supportive of engagement in national organisations and has strong representation within the BHRS and BSE, including past council members of the BHRS, two past presidents of the BSE, the current vice-president, past chairs of the education committee and a number of BSE accreditation assessors. We are supportive of post-graduate study for either service development or advancing clinical specialism and have supported a number of cardiac physiologists to achieve registration as a clinical scientist through the STP equivalence process.

This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to continue the development of Imperial cardiac sciences service while participating in the training and education of our junior colleagues. The workload will be a combination of service development/management and clinical practice and we welcome applications from all cardiac physiology backgrounds (echo, CRM, EP or general service).

This post attracts a 10% R&R premia.
