Job summary
A two bedded obstetric high dependency unit is operational within the delivery suite to provide care for women at Level 1, 2 and 3. We frequently carry out invasive monitoring and are also one of the very few obstetric high dependency units that provide respiratory support by means of Optiflo and CPAP.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for midwives who are interested in midwifery high dependency to join and work within a dedicated obstetric high dependency unit at Queen Charlotte's Hospital as a prime care provider in all aspects of midwifery care, specifically within Maternity HDU care.
This is an excellent opportunity for midwives who are enthusiastic, motivated and interested in this area of midwifery and wish to enhance their skills and knowledge to provide higher levels of care to sick obstetric women.
You will be working in a friendly and supportive environment with the opportunity for further education. You will be part of the delivery suite team and therefore will have on occasions the opportunity to maintain normal midwifery, theatre and recovery skills. Support and training will be provided in the form of study days, one to one teaching and in-house workshops by a multi-disciplinary team and lead midwife for HDU.
Midwives must have enthusiasm and interest in this area of midwifery and have had experience in caring for the sick obstetric woman or the critical ill adult patient. Midwives should be willing to undertake further study where applicable as well as being flexible with their rota. This post will require rotation between day/night duty.
Main duties of the job
Provide high quality, effective midwifery care that is evidence based and woman centred and helps to promote a positive working environment.
Maintain own professional practice and that of others in line with Nursing and Midwifery Council guidance and Statutory Midwives Rules and Standards.
Manage the clinical environment and oversee the operational management of the high dependency area in the absence of the matron and Team Leader
Facilitate the learning of midwifery skills through supervision, teaching and support
