Job summary

This post is suitable for a registered nurse with demonstrable passion and interest for pain management with at least 1 year of experience at Band 6 in either an acute/chronic pain service. Working in our well-established team, you will have the opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, take responsibility for your own caseload, advise medical and surgical teams about pain management and act as an advocate for patients and their carers. You will be expected to act as a role model and mentor for other team members; develop a role teaching other nursing staff and both undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff; contribute to the Trust's nursing strategy and to development of guidelines; and to take part in audit and research projects.

You will have the opportunity to work within three major hospitals, Charing Cross, Hammersmith and St Mary's, all of them with a world renowned reputation for education, research and clinical care provision. Your role will encompass these three important aspects.

Main duties of the job

  • To act as an expert in pain management and provide pain services throughout the Trust, through evidence-based practice, education and policy and guideline development. The role will encompass all aspects of acute and chronic pain management
  • To provide clinical leadership to nursing staff and expert professional advice to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carer

  • 1st level RGN
  • Minimum of 12 months' work experience in acute or chronic pain team
  • Evidence of degree level studies in a pain related subject

Desirable

  • MSc in pain management or advanced clinical practice (or willingness to undertake)
