Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pharmacy Technician to join our electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) team.

Are you an enthusiastic individual looking to learn more and contribute to the development of our ePMA system? Are you self-motivated, have good organisational skills as well as excellent communication skills and the ability to work alongside others?

Main duties of the job

  • To assist with the implementation, maintenance, development of electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) across Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
  • To support back-end technical processes such as configuration, development and testing of the Trust's current or future ePMA systems.
  • To train and support all staff involved with the ePMA process. This includes pharmacy staff, prescribers, nurses and floorwalkers.
  • To convey and promote benefits of ePMA and ensure any implementation is carried out in an effective and safe manner.
  • To be a champion user of the ePMA system, applying extensive knowledge and understanding of how the system works and the workflow that staff need to follow to ensure safety
  • The post holder will exercise professional accountability and responsibility using professional skills, knowledge and expertise in changing inpatient environments, across professional boundaries and in unfamiliar situations.
  • To provide ePMA support services according to rota if necessary (including early, late, weekend working)
  • To support ePMA team and dispensary as an Accredited Checking Technician (ACPT)

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and relevant underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC

Desirable

  • Medicines Management Pharmacy Technician qualification or equivalent e.g. AIMMS, MOPs

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
  • Experience in use and knowledge of electronic prescribing systems
  • Experience of pharmacy computer systems
  • Experience in delivering training and education

Desirable

  • Experience of developing or rolling out an ePMA system in secondary care
