Job summary

The Respiratory Physiology service has an opportunity to appoint a motivated, enthusiastic individual to the role of Senior Clinical Physiologist (Band 6). The service provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing on a wide variety of patients with both respiratory and non-respiratory conditions. You will join a busy, friendly, multidisciplinary team including physiologists, clinical scientists, administrators and consultants.

The role is a cross-site post, working between the Lung function departments at St Mary's and Hammersmith Hospitals, and the Sleep Centre at Charing Cross Hospital, offering candidates the opportunity to develop specialist knowledge and skills in sleep study analysis whilst maintaining existing skills in lung function testing and CPAP clinics.

The post-holder will be responsible for performing standard lung function tests, and a range of complex testing including bronchial provocation, capillary blood gases and field exercise tests. Ideally, the postholder will also have experience of the analysis of respiratory polygraphy sleep studies, and CPAP initiation/review. Away from clinical testing, we host students from the PTP and STP courses so there will be an opportunity to be involved in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff.

It is essential for the successful applicant to have had some previous experience in lung function testing, with a good science background with a BSc in Healthcare Science (respiratory major) or equivalent.

Main duties of the job

To provide Lung Function tests, and Sleep diagnostic and treatment interventions independently, working across the 3 Trust sites. The work of the postholder must be reliable, accurate and to a high professional standard. The information obtained is used to assign the diagnosis of disease and to identify treatment regimes. The postholder is also responsible for the maintenance and calibration of all equipment including therapeutic/diagnostic equipment issued for use in the patients' home.
