Teenage Cancer Trust Clinical Nurse Specialist - Teenage and Young Adult (TYA CNS)

An exciting opportunity exists to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) as a teenage cancer trust sponsored TYA CNS. You will collaboratively work with the site specific cancer CNS teams to support cancer patients aged 16-24. We are seeking an enthusiastic, forward thinking and motivated nurse to join and build this service.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced TYA cancer nurse with advanced communication skills. You will have an excellent understanding of patient experience and support and delivering high quality care to those within the TYA setting.
You will have the opportunity to develop your expertise and the service at ICHT while being supported by the wider TYA network including the primary treatment centre based at UCLH. You will provide support, education and specialist advice to patients, carers and health professionals. You will need to be a leader, work autnomously as well as being part of a team and working with your peer CNSs to improve TYA cancer patient care and experience.
Main duties of the job
- Provide specialist nursing advice, care and support to 16-24 year old cancer patients to facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives/carers, both inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the site specific multi-disciplinary teams and in line with local and national guidelines.
- At all times ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the center of care delivery. Where appropriate acting as a 'key worker', in collaboration with the site specific key Worker.
- Work to improve the patient experience and outcomes throughout the patient journey.
- Deputise for their line manager in designated tasks relevant to the development of role/clinical specialty.
- Act as professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
- To work with senior members of the team and contribute to the development of the clinical nurse specialist role in accordance with local and national policy and ensure the needs of patients and their families are central to service improvement initiatives.
