Job summary

Cygnet Team are looking for full time Band 6 midwives working cross site covering Queen Charlottes & Chelsea and St Mary's Hospital to join the team supporting vulnerable women with safeguarding concerns and moderate to severe mental health difficulties. They provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods

They provide continuity of care in combination with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods and ensure that the needs of the woman are placed at the centre of care delivery.

You will work a combination of clinic long days and labour ward shifts with a view of following your women through their pregnancy journey by providing antenatal care, labour care and postnatal review.

You will work collaboratively with allied clinicians to ensure women receive the highest standard of care, working with Obstetric Consultants, SHO and Registrars with the ability of holding joint appointments. We work alongside our obstetric team to discuss High Risk cases to ensure that they are aware of their additional needs, social and emotional complexities.

You will gain plenty of learning opportunities, have regular supervision, and attend study days and safeguarding and mental health meetings. You will also work very closely with our local perinatal mental health service.

Main duties of the job

  • As a Continuity of Care Team Midwife, you will support the operational delivery of safeguarding practice across the Trust. To adhere to national, regional and local legislation, policies and recommendations. To be confident in giving advice and support to staff in relation to maternity safeguarding by identifying risks and supporting staff to complete the appropriate referral to Children's Social Care (CSC).
  • To work in partnership with women and their families, GP, obstetrician and other agencies to ensure optimum care.
  • Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of mothers and babies in accordance with the Trusts policies and guidelines.
  • Strive for continuity of care and informed client choice within the limitations of the service.
  • Facilitate the learning of midwifery skills through supervision, teaching and support.
  • Actively promote and encourage a healthy lifestyle, advising and arranging support for women as required.
  • Participate in pertinent information groups, facilitating preparation for childbirth and the postnatal period.
  • To provide support to the Band 7 Team Leader and other members of the team, and work closely with the safeguarding team.
