Job summary

This post is for a 10PA substantive Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, based at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington. It comprises 35% major benign gynaecology operating, 20% outpatient clinics (including fibroid clinic, general gynaecology and outpatient hysteroscopy) and the remainder is comprised of an alternate week labour ward session, on call and MDT attendance. SPA activity will include CPD, educational supervision and support of trainees pursing completion of training outside NHSE training posts.

Main duties of the job

The consultant will be a member of the Fibroid Team at St Mary's Hospital, along with two other consultants, a consultant interventional radiologist, research fellow and clinical nurse specialist. The service receives 1000 new referrals per year and requires an additional surgeon for the provision of open and laparoscopic surgery. The consultant will also provide a general gynaecology outpatient clinic and outpatient hysteroscopy session, delivery suite cover one session per fortnight and will provide acute gynaecological surgical cover once per week. Supporting professional activity will be focussed on development of the CESR program, along with continuing professional development activities.

Essential

  • On GMC's register with a Licence to Practice or eligible to apply for GMC registration and a Licence to Practice
  • On GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of being admitted to the register by the date of the interviews or eligible for specialist registration

Knowledge/ Skills

Essential

  • ATSM or equivalent in emergency Gynaecology and early pregnancy
  • ATSM or equivalent experience in outpatient hysteroscopy
  • IT Skills and computer literacy

Leadership/ Management Skills

  • Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
  • Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues.
