Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to appoint a Specialist Registrar in Acute & General Medicine at St Mary's Hospital. The post holder will look after acute & general medical inpatients and take part in the general/acute medical on-call rota. The post would be ideal for trainees with MRCP having completing CT2/IMT2 who would like to gain more experience as a general/acute medical registrar prior to applying for higher training in a medical specialty. Applications from candidates wishing to undertake less than full-time will be happily considered. The duration of the post will be for 6 months, with the possibility of extension.

Main duties of the job
The post primarily involves responsibility for inpatients under the care of the Gastroenterology firm, with responsibility for Acute and General Medicine patients only. The firm is led by consultant physicians, who are all dual accredited in general internal medicine. There are also other medical trainees at different grades within the firm.
The post holder will work closely with other members of the team to ensure high quality acute and specialist medical services within the strategic framework agreed by the team. They will work closely with the appropriate clinical management teams to:
- Support the SHO, FY1 and nurses on the unit with decision making
- Review new referrals and discuss these with the consultant
- Manage acute medical admissions
- Manage ambulatory care patients
- Take part in or lead inpatient ward rounds
