Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) wishes to recruit a substantive Consultant Obstetrician subspecialist in fetal and maternal medicine at St Mary's Hospital. The duties of this post will primarily be delivered at St Mary's Hospital, although the applicant may be expected to work cross sites as required to deliver a service at its tertiary unit, Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital or Charing Cross Hospital.

The post contributes to the unit providing consultant presence of 84 hours on its labour ward of approximately 4000 deliveries per annum. St Mary's serves an ethnically complex and diverse population resulting in a complex obstetric case load. The fetal medicine unit has undergone a recent refurbishment and sees approximately 800 patients per annum, providing invasive testing, support for the termination service and all multiples. Our specialist neurology and cardiac clinics are held at Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea Hospital which provide the support for tertiary cases. The prematurity service provides clinical care and conducts research into women who have had a previous preterm birth or have risk factors for this. There is a Maternity Day Assessment Unit and a separate triage area. St Mary's has a midwifery led unit which is co-located with the obstetric services and Level 2 neonatology. Imperial maternity also provides community and mental health services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration.

    • To work closely with the directorate, patient and public panels in relation to clinical and services developments.
    • To ensure NICE and other national guidelines are reviewed regularly and implemented.

    • To participate in the business planning
    • To represent the Trust at appropriate clinical networks/other external clinical meeting.
  • Leadership and team working
    • To participate in national initiatives.
    • To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
