Job summary
There are two specialist grade posts available, one at Hammersmith Hospital and one at Charing Cross Hospital. The role of a specialist grade is to provide clinical services in Anaesthesia in accordance with clinical and legal requirements and in keeping with the international role of the Trust. This clinical role is divided between attending theatre and providing perioperative care, including pre-operative assessment as part of the team-based approach.
Charing Cross Hospital includes a busy neurosurgical unit, interventional radiology, thrombectomy service, specialist head and neck surgery, as well as a growing regional cancer service for major urology and colorectal surgery. There is, in addition, the Riverside Day Surgery Unit and a major elective orthopaedic surgery service.
Hammersmith Hospital includes renal, hepatobiliary, major gynae-oncology surgery and also provide anaesthesia for upper GI and endocrine surgery
The post holder will work a 10 PA contract based at Hammersmith Hospital or Charing Cross Hospital.
Hammersmith Hospital- A successful candidate would cover general lists which include renal, hepatobiliary, major gynae-oncology surgery and have opportunity to have the opportunity to provide anaesthesia for upper GI and endocrine surgery.
Charing Cross Hospital- A successful candidate would cover lists which include urology, ENT, neurosurgery, breast.
Main duties of the job
Hammersmith Hospital
- Provides complex cancer surgical services in gynaecology, endocrine hepatobiliary, and upper GI specialties.. There is a renal medicine and transplant service based in the Hammersmith Hospital which will feature in the job plan and the on-call commitment. It is also a cardiac surgical centre but applicants to this role would not be expected to deliver cardiac anaesthesia for open surgery. There are opportunities to deliver TAVI, EP sessions and cardiology do provide a regional PCI service which includes out of hospital cardiac arrest referrals.
- This job includes a general oncall rota component which is supported by a dedicated cardiac consultant anaesthetic body where required but largely involves the out of hours care of patients undergoing renal transplant, PCI service and benign gynaecology. There is a dedicated resident SpR and CT 2/3 covering theatres out of hours.
- We would encourage candidates who may have an interest in developing our current perioperative medicine service which includes pre-assessment and pre-habilitation for major cancer.
Charing Cross Hospital
- Cross-site working may be required
