Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, Saint Mary's Hospital; Site for a highly motivated, committed and enthusiastic individual to join our team at Saint Mary's Hospital as Band 7 Theatre Coordinator for the Operating Theatres. Saint Mary's Hospital theatre site has a total of 13 operating theatres which covers a wide range of surgery from emergency, trauma, plastics, vascular, paediatrics, bariatrics, gynaecology and neurosurgery . You will have the opportunity to develop your management skills whilst maintaining your clinical skills. You will be managing a team but will also have the opportunity to learn how to coordinate the theatre activity through our very busy department.

Saint Mary's Hospital is the major acute hospital for North West London. The hospital provides care across a wide range of specialties and runs one of four major trauma centres in London in addition to its 24/7 A&E department.

Main duties of the job

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/ODP Mentoring or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Minimum 4-5 years post registration experience and a minimum of 2 years in a Theatre Department with experience of team leadership

Desirable

  • Leadership qualification.
  • Has attained a Degree in management/professional nursing or other relevant areas.

Experience

Essential

  • Preferably able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge in two out of three areas: anaesthetics, recovery, scrubs.
  • Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes. Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Ability to practice within the scope of the NMC or HPC Professional Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to demonstrate application of the NHS Plan to own sphere of practice.

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

  • Evidence of applying current research to practice.
  • Effective time management for self and others.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills. Leadership skills.
  • Understanding of Microsoft office including Excel and PowerPoint
