Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic Pharmacy Technician to join the Haematology Pharmacy team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. The successful candidate will provide a ward based medicines management service to our haematology patients and will support with the maintenance and development of the electronic prescribing system for chemotherapy.

The postholder will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team and will be joining a growing, supportive team who strive for excellence. The trust is in the process of implementing a new electronic prescribing system for chemotherapy and the postholder will support with the development and maintenance of the system, as well as supporting users.

To be successful in this role you will need to be organised, motivated and have excellent communication skills. Registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is essential.

Main duties of the job

  • To support with the maintenance and the development of the SACT e-prescribing system
  • To work closely with the haematology pharmacists, the SACT e-prescribing senior pharmacy technicians, the Cancer IT systems managers and the system provider
  • To accurately enter and validate new SACT protocols
  • To train and support system users
  • To provide relevant reports as requested
  • To provide a high quality ward-based clinical pharmacy service to haematology patients
  • To help ensure that service provision is flexible and responsive to users (SACT e-prescribing) and patients' needs

Essential

  • Registered Pharmacy Technician with the GPhC
  • NVQ level 3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) and relevant underpinning knowledge in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent
  • Mandatory professional CPD as defined by the GPhC

Desirable

  • AIMMS or MOPs accreditation
  • ACPT or recognised accredited pharmacy technician checking qualification
  • Qualified NVQ assessor
  • LPE&T pharmacy technician self-development scheme stage 2 or equivalent

Experience

  • Post qualification experience of working in a UK hospital; this must include a solid grounding in all aspects of hospital pharmacy
