Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, capable and motivated pharmacist with recent experience in Medicines Information to lead on training and developing junior staff and maintaining standards and resources as we further develop our 'Imperial model' of Medicines Information within our Medicines Advisory, Governance and Safety Service. Our service is among the busiest and most well-regarded in the country, and involves many opportunities for the application of risk management principles in dealing with patients, healthcare professionals and primary care providers.

The post is aimed to help manage, maintain and develop the Medicines Information Service for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust to ensure the provision of a high quality, patient focused, evaluated and unbiased, evidence based pharmaceutical information and advisory service,to all health care professionals and patients of the Trust, associated hospitals and community clinics.

You should be able to identify and avoid risks to patients from their medicines and to 'close loops' where possible by identifying system failures and preventing recurrence.

You are expected to develop, train, motivate and encourage staff working within Medicines Information.

Main duties of the job

  • To manage, maintain and develop the Medicines Information Service. This will include qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the service.
  • To provide a high-quality patient focused service to all health-care professionals and to patients in the Trust.
  • To respond to enquiries by evaluating up to date information sources to provide informed, unbiased evidence-based answers with due regard to patient safety and minimisation of risk.
  • To support, develop and monitor the progress of all staff working in Medicines Information section.
  • To ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of drugs.
  • To actively contribute to the development, monitoring and integration of written policies/guidelines and procedures covering all aspects of Medicines Information.
  • To assist in the development of the National Guide for Injectable Drugs (Medusa) as required.
  • To provide a comprehensive ward pharmacy service to one or more specialties and to train other pharmacists in these specialties

  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council Post graduate programme in Pharmacy Practice (JPB or equivalent);
  • Up to date CPD portfolio.

Desirable

  • Appropriate management short courses

Experience

  • Previous hospital work essential with solid grounding in all aspects (medicines information, aseptic services, ward services and dispensing);
  • Recent medicines information experience
  • Previous experience in delivery of training and education
  • Experience of supervising others
