As a staff bank biomedical scientist, you will be able to work additional shifts across our five hospitals or take on a temporary contract with us. You will perform routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples, give test results to medical staff, and contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in one of four areas: infection sciences, blood sciences, cell sciences or genetics and molecular pathology.
Main duties of the job
Some of the main duties of a Bank Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Imperial NHS Trust are:
- To perform routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples, such as blood, urine, tissue, and DNA, using various techniques and equipment.
- To give test results to medical staff, such as doctors, nurses, and consultants, and contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, and infections.
- To develop and validate new methods and procedures for testing and quality assurance, and ensure that they comply with the relevant standards and regulations.
- To maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment, and troubleshoot any problems or errors that may occur.
- To supervise and train junior staff, such as trainee biomedical scientists, laboratory assistants, and students, and provide feedback and guidance on their performance and development.
- To participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, such as attending courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences, and keeping up to date with the latest scientific literature and research.
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other healthcare professionals, such as pathologists, pharmacists, radiologists, and microbiologists, and collaborate on research projects and audits.

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is an NHS trust based in London, England. The trust was formed in October 2007 by the merger of Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust and St Mary's NHS Trust and their integration with Imperial College Faculty of Medicine.
