Main duties of the job

Some of the main duties of a Bank Band 6 Biomedical Scientist in Imperial NHS Trust are:

  • To perform routine and specialist analytical testing on a range of biological samples, such as blood, urine, tissue, and DNA, using various techniques and equipment.
  • To give test results to medical staff, such as doctors, nurses, and consultants, and contribute to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases, such as cancer, diabetes, and infections.
  • To develop and validate new methods and procedures for testing and quality assurance, and ensure that they comply with the relevant standards and regulations.
  • To maintain and calibrate laboratory instruments and equipment, and troubleshoot any problems or errors that may occur.
  • To supervise and train junior staff, such as trainee biomedical scientists, laboratory assistants, and students, and provide feedback and guidance on their performance and development.
  • To participate in continuing professional development (CPD) activities, such as attending courses, workshops, seminars, and conferences, and keeping up to date with the latest scientific literature and research.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team with other healthcare professionals, such as pathologists, pharmacists, radiologists, and microbiologists, and collaborate on research projects and audits.
