Job summary

Are you a Registered Nurse interested in becoming a Midwife? This 2 year Masters programme is provided jointly with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and the University of West London (UWL)

The aim of this course is to prepare safe, competent and confident midwives who can positively contribute to the health of childbearing women, people, newborn infants and their families. They will gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours to meet the future challenges of a rapidly evolving healthcare system. The curriculum reflects contemporary maternity provision, influential political drivers and current NHS demands. It recognises midwifery as both an art and science and as such, fundamental biological and scientific concepts are integrated within the course ensuring the development of communication and interpersonal skills, resilience and emotional intelligence to promote self-efficacy and the need to facilitate the development of trusting relationships.

Course fees and salary support - The government is currently offering funding for shortened course students aligned to the mid-point AFC band 5 and a tuition fee contribution of up to £9,250 per student per annum, pro rata for the length of the course. Each year we are notified by Health Education England how many places are available.

For the duration of the course your placement will be at either Queen Charlottes & Chelsea and/ or St Mary's Hospitals Sites.

Main duties of the job

  • Are appropriate to the needs, context, culture and choices of the women/birthing people, babies and their families
  • Are made in partnership with women/birthing people
  • Are ethical
  • Are based on best evidence and clinical judgement
  • Care for and monitor women/birthing people across the whole childbirth continuum offering the necessary evidenced based health promotion advice and support.

  • Honours degree at lower second class or above in Adult Nursing

Desirable

  • Candidates will usually have undertaken academic study at level 6 or above within the last 5 years.
  • Evidence of post registration education activity.
