We are looking to recruit an innovative and enthusiastic occupational therapist to join the vascular, trauma orthopaedic and surgical therapy team, comprising of qualified and assistant therapy staff within the Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

We require a highly specialised Band 7 Occupational Therapist, with previous experience working in the areas of vascular surgery, amputees, trauma orthopaedic, plastic and general surgery, providing intervention to patients experiencing a wide range of conditions, whose needs are often challenging and complex.

The post holder will carry a varied caseload of vascular and surgical patients, including patients stepped down from the MTU at St. Mary's Hospital, and vascular and traumatic amputees. The successful applicant will also be responsible for managing inpatient referrals, and overseeing the day to day work load, supervision and appraisal of junior staff. They will also work closely supporting the service lead in improving efficiencies and developing services.

We are looking for a dedicated and motivated occupational therapist, with excellent communication and people management skills to join and compliment our established teams. We offer clinical and leadership training both internal and external, and would be open to supporting postgraduate education in the future.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high quality Occupational Therapy service within the specialties of Vascular surgery, General Surgery and Trauma and Orthopaedics (T&O).
  • Patients seen have a wide range of vascular, trauma and surgical conditions and their needs are frequently complex.
  • The service aim is for clinical risk management pre and post-operatively, post-injury or post-diagnosis, to maximise functional ability and ensure safe discharge of patients.
  • This team covers Orthopaedics, Vascular Surgery, Plastics, GI Surgery, Major Trauma Unit step down patients and the Surgical Rehabilitation Unit.
  • Conditions seen include various types of vascular, amputees, trauma, cancer and palliative surgical patients and other surgeries.
  • The post holder will have their own caseload and actively participate in the ongoing development, evaluation and audit of this service.
  • To provide team leadership, direction and support for junior staff and students.
  • To assist in the management, development of occupational therapy services, including service reviews and audit. To hold responsibility for defined projects.
  • To comply with the College of Occupational Therapists Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct.
  • To provide speciality OT input into education, training and development programmes for staff and students within clinical speciality and profession
