Job summary

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, well-motivated and organised individuals for this this key substantive post. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of Clean Room GMP clinical processing, including advanced immune-oselection protocols, Advanced Cellular Therapies manufacture/development, Cell Culture, cryopreservation, research sample bio-banking, Clinical Trial product handling, Flow Cytometry and other quality testing.

The post holder will be involved in all aspects that are key to our service development and expected to participate in activities such as validation, introduction of new techniques into the laboratory, quality systems, training,SOP writing, data management and assisting in new/on-going translational research bringing new therapies into clinical practice.

Applicants must have Health and Care Professions Council registration, ideally with experience of practical GMP HPC processing. A minimum of MSc level qualification in a related field is essential or a PhD/IBMS Fellow in an appropriate specialist subject would be considered, but applicants must have direct experience in this field or in a related area such as Blood Transfusion, Immunology laboratory or Pharmaceutical manufacturing. In order to meet the needs of a high quality service, the post holder will be expected to be flexible in their working arrangements/time and be able to demonstrate the ability to work consistently under pressure to the highest standards

Main duties of the job

  • Use and develop specialist skills within the Quality Testing Dept. in order that patient evaluation and product quality testing are carried out appropriately and in a timely manner conducive to good patient management.
  • Use and develop specialist skills within the Processing Dept. in the controlled working environment, clean rooms and associated areas, to maintain regulatory compliance and a safe environment for the processing of cell harvests for clinical use.
  • Carry out Quality testing to include but not limited to, flow cytometry, FBC, colony assay and validation studies as appropiate.
  • Perform cryopreservation of cellular therpay products inclduing IMPs/ ATMPs in line with current SOPs..
  • Receive laboratory consumables and perform Goods Receipt in accordance SOP for storage..
  • Prepare Infusion Files ready for Product release by the Dept leads.
  • In carrying out these duties, the post holder will maintain close communication with all staff attached to the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit activities based at Hammersmith Hospital, the Paediatric team based at St Mary's Hospital and any other relevant departments within Imperial College NHS Trust and outside the Trust.
  • Maintain close communication with Research staff in Imperial College Faculty of Medicine, Department of Haematology and other collaborators
