Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Respiratory Physiology team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
The sleep service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS trust provides comprehensive diagnostic testing for a range of respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders as well as the provision and follow-up of patients on CPAP and NIV.
The post-holder will play a key role in performing routine diagnostic tests and maintaining diagnostic equipment, mostly by being part of the rotation for set up and monitoring of patients having overnight diagnostic sleep studies. They will also be supported to gain skills in monitoring CPAP compliance, in well-established patients, providing them with replacement parts and supporting with routine queries under direction of a Senior Clinical Physiologist.
The post-holder will be the first Point-of-Contact for the Assistant Clinical Physiologists, leading in their training, assessment, clinical queries and senior support.
The role will be primarily based at the Sleep Centre in Charing Cross Hospital, but there is the scope to rotate across the Lung Function departments within the trust (HH, CXH, SMH, WCDC) where the candidate can gain competencies in Spirometry testing and other diagnostic tests.
Main duties of the job
- Interact closely with medical, scientific and other nursing staff to provide a high quality Sleep Service dedicated to patient care
- To independently hook up and monitor patients having routine and complex respiratory sleep studies; troubleshooting routine equipment problems according to established protocols; ensuring the patient's personal comfort; and optimising technical quality
- -With ongoing support, develop knowledge and understanding of CPAP treatment, in order to provide routine follow-ups in well-established patients on CPAP, according to departmental protocols
- Accurately set-up, remove, download and decontaminate sleep study recording equipment according to standard operating procedures
- Assist in the orientation of new staff and students
- Follow SOPS and Trust Policies
- Lead in stock control, demonstrating financial awareness
- Assist in ad hoc projects, audits and risk assessments
- To be proactive, assuring accuracy of own work and, organise own workload.
