Job summary

The children's physiotherapy team, based at St Mary's Hospital, provides a comprehensive acute and community service to Central and North Westminster and North Kensington and Chelsea localities. Following additional investment, an exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint to a new post: a full time Band 6 Paediatric Physiotherapist within the Woodfield Child Development Service (CDS).

CDS physiotherapists work within an established multi-disciplinary team providing community physiotherapy for 0-19 year olds with SEND in North RBKC and Westminster. The post holder will deliver physiotherapy for children and young people at QEII Jubilee Special School and across a community caseload in homes, educational facilities and outpatient clinics at Woodfield Road Medical Centre. QEII Jubilee School has a dedicated and experienced Band 7 physiotherapist to support this new role and the CDS physiotherapy team is led by a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, with support from highly specialised Band 7 physiotherapists.

Close working relationships exist between the acute paediatric and neonatal multi-disciplinary services and children's community services, to promote clinical excellence and provide continuity of care for children and young people.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to children referred to the Children's Physiotherapy service.
  • To acquire and demonstrate knowledge of relevant pathologies, conditions, normal values relating to children's physiotherapy.
  • To be responsible for own caseload and be responsible within a defined area of the service and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To be responsible for the clinical education of physiotherapy students.
  • To supervise and contribute to the training and development of physiotherapy assistants and junior physiotherapists.
  • To undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further own and team's clinical practice within each area.
  • To make recommendations for service development, with active involvement in the implementation of changes to practice or service protocols.
  • The job holder will help to provide a 7 day 24 hour paediatric inpatient service (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
  • The job holder is required to participate in overnight on-calls and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

  • Recent substantial and sustained experience in physiotherapy working in acute or community settings

  • oKnowledge of the influence of psychosocial and cultural factors on health / illness behaviours

Desirable

  • Previous experience in children's physiotherapy (band 5 or 6)
  • Knowledge of the workings of community-based physiotherapy services
  • Governance issues and an understanding of their relation to patient care

  • Able to use knowledge of a range of treatment approaches in the management of paediatric conditions

  • Ability to cope with working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients or carers.
