Job summary

Following a move to larger premises and the expansion of the service, the Same Day Emergency Care unit at St Mary's Hospital is looking for motivated and enthusiastic sisters/charge nurses to join the team.

You need to be passionate about providing high quality, emergency same day care in this fast paced, evolving and exciting area of acute emergency care. You must have excellent communication skills and be excited about being part of an innovative nursing team.

This is an exciting time to join Same Day Emergancy care as we increase the numbers of patients attending the service. We see approximately 50-70 patients a day on each site, with varying presentations including renal colic, DVT, cellulitis, low risk chest pain and many more. We work closely with the Emergency Department, taking many patients from the Urgent Care Centre and ED triage, as well as those who are referred in by their own GPs,LAS direct and 111.

This post consists of a mixture of long days (0800-2030) and long day B shifts (0930-2200) and includes weekends, but no nights.

You will be supported by a Senior Charge Nurse and Lead Nurse for AEC.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide high quality, effective, individualised care to all patients and assist in monitoring standards
  • To assess care needs and develop, implement and evaluate them without supervision
  • To assist in leading and monitoring the performance of the nursing team
  • To respond to patients, relatives and carers concerns as they arise and take remedial action as required.
