Job summary

Specialist Grade Doctor in Medical Retina and Diabetic eye - 12 month fixed term

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust welcomes applicants to apply for a Specialist Grade post in Ophthalmology with special interest in Medical Retina and Diabetic Eye at the Western Eye Hospital. This is a full time post within the Medical Retina and Diabetic service for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance.

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and innovative person to join the ophthalmic service for the UK's first Academic Health Science Centre and the largest trust in the country.

Applicants must have MBBS ,FRCS or FRCOpth or equivalent and at least 5 years training in ophthalmology and be fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.

Non-UK / EEA applicants should ensure that they are aware of immigration rules for Postgraduate Doctors and Dentists.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will work with the current Medical retina and Diabetic eye consultants at WEH and CXH in the ophthalmology directorate of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.

Imperial College Medical Retina and diabetic Service

The Medical Retina department at the Western Eye Hospital is a very busy and dynamic tertiary referral centre which also cares for acute emergencies from the ophthalmology dedicated casualty service. The service has been rapidly expanding. There are several consultant led Medical Retina and diabetic clinics running each week with additional glaucoma monitoring clinics running at the Charing Cross Hospital as well as specialist nurse practitioner led and technician led clinics managing approximately 200 patients a week.

Age related macular degeneration (ARMD) and medical retina service (Macula Suite)

We have specialised facilities that are dedicated to the care of these patients including a minor surgery suite where patients receive their ARMD eye injections.
