Job summary

A unique opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic senior lead medicines management Pharmacy Technician to join our welcoming Surgical Pharmacy team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHNT).

Duties will include prioritising effective management of medicines for surgical inpatients to improve discharge flow and medicines management across the hospital sites, training new Medicines Management Pharmacy Surgery technicians and junior technical Pharmacy staff.

This is a great opportunity to build your clinical skills, communication and teamwork skills in a world-renowned teaching hospital. You will attending multidisciplinary team board rounds, helping patient flow aiding early identification of patient discharges. In addition, this role will provide opportunities for improving the service and working through cost saving projects, through regular expenditure surveillance.

You will be required to supervise and manage junior member of the team whilst being supported by the rest of the team.

We shall be looking to hold interviews on 23rd and 24th August 2023.

Main duties of the job

This is a varied role including patient facing medicines management activities across surgical wards at St Mary's hospital (e.g. taking medication histories, facilitating medicines reconciliation, assessment of patients' own drugs 'PODs', ensuring efficient patient discharge, engaging patients through consultations and preparation of medication for discharge), identifying and ordering of medications using electronic systems, ward stock management.

You will need to possess good computer and communication skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. You will play a key role in the recruitment, education and training of medicines management technicians and junior Pharmacy staff within the surgical team. Ensuring the appropriate turnover of medicines across surgical wards, medicines management audits, quality improvement projects, expenditure surveillance and medicines saving under the direction of the Senior Lead Pharmacist are key deliverables for this role.

You will gain valuable experience whilst working rotationally through various surgical specialties, seeing niche and interesting patient cases. Patients presenting to these environments will often have complex pharmaceutical care needs that require good medicines management and clinical knowledge. You will be well supported within your role and will equally be expected to provide a high standard of care while working at one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK.
