Job summary
A vacancy has arisen for a 12 month Consultant Clinical Haematologist with a Specialist Interest in Thrombosis (8 PAs). The postholder will form an essential part of the Haemostasis & Thrombosis service within Clinical Haematology, providing a full range of diagnostic and management services for patients with bleeding disorders, including severe hereditary disorders such as haemophilia, coagulation, von Willebrand disease and platelet disorders. Haematology's inpatient service is based at Hammersmith Hospital where there is also a separate 24-hour Renal & Haematology Triage. Outpatients are also seen primarily at Hammersmith Hospital with a dedicated Haemophilia Centre for patients with bleeding disorders but provide some General Haematology and Anti-Coagulation at St Mary's Hospital.
This role will work with the existing Haemostasis & Thrombosis team, consisting of Consultants, Haemophilia & Anticoagulation CNS', social worker and support staff. The post holder will require experience in the management of patients with inherited and acquired causes of thrombosis and patients with cancer-associated thrombosis, with the opportunity to develop specialist areas of interest within the role dependent on experience and motivation. Key duties will include direct clinical duties participating in local and network MDTs, haemophilia centre and warfarin clinic management, developing and reviewing guidelines and research and teaching.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will cover a range of duties comprising direct clinical duties (including cancer and general thrombosis clinics, haemostasis triage, attending/on call duties), participating in local and network MDTs, haemophilia centre and network planning meetings, management of the warfarin clinics across out sites, developing and reviewing guidelines, research, and teaching. These are fully outlined along with indicative job plan in the job description document provided. This will be an 8PA role.

Managerial duties-There are no specific managerial duties associated with this post, however there is an expectation that the Consultant will engage with consultant colleagues and the Head of Specialty in the overall strategic direction of the service with the Directorate and Divisional triumvirate teams. The appointee will take part in directorate meetings, consultant meetings, quality meetings, and ad-hoc meetings within the department.
