Job summary
This is an exciting time to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) as a bank Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN). We have recently invested in three new senior mental health nursing roles to lead on improving mental health outcomes and experience at ICHT. This includes the establishment of two new mental health nursing teams at Charing Cross and St Marys sites; as well as supporting the development of a broader strategy to enhance the care of patients with mental health needs.
As part of this expanding service, bank RMNs will play a key part in this organisational change, providing flexible therapeutic support to patients and acting as a resource and source of expertise to other clinicians across the hospital. The senior leadership team will also support bank RMNs to build on their own practice, progress their career, and enhance their expertise through robust supervision, and access to training and development opportunities.
We are looking for RMNs who are adaptable and comfortable with covering all clinical areas as demand requires this could mean working flexibly to use your specialist skills in another part of the hospital during the course of a shift. By joining the Staff Bank you put yourself at the top of the list for any shifts requiring extra staff throughout the Trust. We have long day shifts, day shifts and night shifts available.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide support when patients require specialist mental health input across clinical areas. As a bank RMN you will have an important role in promoting parity of esteem between mental and physical health in the general hospital setting. You will be required to demonstrate excellent communication skills while providing first line advice, support, and information to a wide range of patients that present with acute mental health needs, and colleagues looking after them.
You will need to have excellent nursing assessment and risk management skills, knowledge of the legal frameworks that inform acute mental health care, an understanding of mental health diagnoses and a well-informed understanding of psychosocial interventions. You will be on the frontline of mental and physical health care and we will equip you with the skills you need to respond to a variety of clinical needs and provide you with career development opportunities.
You will be joining a highly motivated, diverse, and enthusiastic team that has a ready to help attitude. We believe in embracing the expertise of our nurses, medics, allied health professionals and health care support workers, working together to lead on improving the quality of patient care and experience.
This post requires that you are highly motivated, professional and can be flexible in an ever changing environment and are able communicate effectively across a multi-professional team.
