ST3+ Trust doctor (LAS) in Cardiology
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
This job is now closed
Job summary
Before its dissolution in 2023, [HEE] Health Education England (HEE) initiated a programme of removal of training post funding from the most popular training sites in the country and redistribution to less popular training sites. Several decades ago, training was locally funded and appointed, with trainees choosing individually where to apply to train. These choices were unequally distributed across the country, with a disproportionately high number in North-West London. That distribution became institutionalised with development of centrally-regulated training schemes. Health Education England has set in motion a 5-year programme of redistribution of centrally-funded training posts across the country to match the distribution of the UK population.
In Cardiology, the North West sector of London saw the country's largest reduction, because its previous number of Cardiology trainees exceeded its population-based quota to the greatest degree. The number of clinical NTN appointees dropped from ~10 per year in previous years, to 0 for October 2023.
Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has instituted this training scheme to directly replace the removed NTN-funded posts with corresponding Imperial-funded clinical/academic training posts. As centrally funded posts continue to be redistributed away from Imperial Trust over the next few years, these Imperial Clinical/Academic Cardiology Training Scheme posts will progressively replace them.
Main duties of the job
The timetable will depend on the current needs of the department and the clinical experience of the applicant. The post-holders will work together with the other cardiology SpRs, under the guidance of Clinical Supervisors, in the assessment and management of emergency and elective cardiology patients.
