Job summary

Our mostrecent inspectionby the Care Quality Commission, published July 2019, rated our maternity service as 'outstanding', the first rating of its kind for a maternity service in London. An exciting opportunity has now arisen for enthusiastic and motivated band 6 midwives to join the Caseload Home Birth team at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust across both St Mary's and Queen Charlotte's and Chelsea sites.

You will have a passion for women-centred, individualised care for women and their families with a focus on continuity of carer through antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care delivered by named midwife or buddy. The role will involve a variety of care in a range of settings and being on call for home births. As a Caseload Home Birth Midwife you will be; planning and implementing individualised midwifery led care in partnership with the woman and the multidisciplinary team. Using continual assessment and analysis you will provide continuity of carer throughout the woman's pregnancy, birth and postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for.

You will provide a 24 hour service within the team including on-calls to encourage continuity and flexibility. You will be supported by experienced midwives with an orientation package that includes specialist homebirth skills and drills training. You must have the flexibility to travel and undertake on call duties. Car driver is ideal.

Main duties of the job

  • As a caseload midwife you will be; planning and implementing individualised midwifery led care in partnership with the woman and the multidisciplinary team. Using continual assessment and analysis you will provide continuity of carer throughout the woman's pregnancy, birth and postnatal period to ensure her medical, psychological and social needs are assessed and holistically cared for. As a caseload midwife you will be working alongside multi professional teams providing the most appropriate care for women whilst breaking down barriers that can inhibit women with socially complex lives accessing high quality maternity care.
  • Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in a variety of settings such as the community, hospital and woman's home.
  • Provide continuity of care and carer in combination with emotional and psychological support during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods in a variety of settings such as the community, hospital and woman's home.
  • Liaise appropriately with services to ensure safe and effective care is provided to women at the right place, and at the right time. Act as an advocate for women, whilst safeguarding her and her wider family and social group where appropriate.
  • Have an in depth understanding of barriers which may impact or inhibit women from accessing timely and regular antenatal care.
