Main duties of the job

As Chief Pharmacist you will be the most senior Pharmacist at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) responsible for the safe delivery of a comprehensive, optimised, high quality pharmaceutical service to patients and staff. You will be the expert voice on pharmacy matters to the Executive Board; leading on medicines related Clinical Governance issues, whilst ensuring that regulatory standards and legislation in relation to medicines and pharmacy services are met.

You will provide clinical and professional leadership, quality and risk management and lead the strategic development of the service as well as ensuring maintenance of a research and development framework. You will ensure that the Trust's Pharmacy services are progressive and responsive to internal and external demand, patient focused, safe, efficient, effective and well-led.

You will act as the Trust's Controlled Drugs Accountable Officer as required by the Controlled Drugs (Supervision of Management and Use) Regulations 2013

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Registration as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent as approved by General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Post-graduate qualification relevant to clinical and/or hospital pharmacy practice or equivalent
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience within a hospital pharmacy environment including relevant experience at senior management/immediate sub-board level
  • Recent practice (within the last 5 years) in a leadership role within hospital pharmacy as either a Chief Pharmacist of a District General Hospital or Deputy Chief Pharmacist of a teaching hospital
  • Experience of developing a positive clinical practice environment, empowering all Pharmacy services to deliver high-quality and safe care
  • Experience of operational and staff management in the NHS within Pharmacy Services
  • Experience of dealing with conflict and working with colleagues to agree remedial action as required
  • Experience of working with executive teams and giving assurance on divisional services
  • Recent experience in leading transformational quality improvement project work

  • Extensive experience at senior manager/immediate sub-board level necessary to provide confidence in negotiating with senior staff inside and outside the Trust
  • Previous experience managing a comprehensive pharmaceutical service
  • Highly developed negotiating/influencing skills based on a thorough understanding of the relationships between the clinical and management functions
  • Ability to exercise discretion within wide parameters in researching/seeking support for plans to deliver agreed objectives
  • Experience of project/programme management
  • Good understanding of NHS financial management
  • Knowledge of national NHS policy relating to pharmacy
