Job summary

The Paediatric Sleep department at St Mary's Hospital is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of clinical scientists, physiologists, respiratory consultants, and administrators. We are a rapidly expanding team that encourages career growth and progression. We provide diagnostics and therapies for respiratory and non-respiratory sleep disorders via cardiorespiratory and polysomnography sleep studies, MSLTs, actigraphy, and sleep consultations. The physiology team also cover paediatric lung function testing for the trust and are aligned with Imperial College London to conduct translational sleep and respiratory physiology research.

This role will primarily be tasked with the conduction and analyse of both in-hospital and home paediatric sleep studies, working a mixture of days and nights to produce high quality sleep diagnostic data and communicating this to the wider multi-disciplinary team, under the supervision of the Lead physiologist. Further to this, there is opportunity to develop skills in lung function testing as the role will involve physiology support of consultant-led respiratory clinics. The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to work closely with Imperial College London to produced translational research in the field as part of the wider team.

The applicant must have extensive experience in the set-up, analysis, and reporting of paediatric cardiorespiratory sleep studies and working within the NHS as part of a sleep physiology service.

Main duties of the job

As a member of the sleep study team the successful candidate will deliver high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives/carers, often independently during conduction of overnight in-hospital full polysomnography and cardiorespiratory sleep studies and home sleep study initialisation clinics, whilst working within the appropriate clinical frameworks. They will also be tasked with the analysis and reporting this cardiorespiratory sleep study data under the supervision of the Lead Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Physiologist and the service lead for Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep medicine.

Analysis and reporting of nocturnal polysomnography, MSLTs, and other sleep physiology testing will eventually be required after the necessary training is provided in-house.

Additionally, with appropriate training provided if necessary, the post holder will also support respiratory outpatient's clinics with spirometry, FeNO, and more complex respiratory physiology testing.
