Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced scrub nurse to join our well established maternity team.
The post holder will be responsible for providing skilled assistance in the management and coordination of the Elective Caesarean Lists and Emergency Caesarean Sections to the anaesthetist/surgeon and theatre team as required.
Main duties of the job
Provides skilled care within the operating department and outside areas, fulfilling the practitioners role according to local policies and national guidelines.
The assessment of care needs, and the development, implementation and evaluation of the programmes of care for patients undergoing surgery.
The maintenance of a safe environment for patients, reporting and taking appropriate action on hazards and faulty equipment as required

- Support the Obstetrician and Theatre team in the management and co-ordination of the Elective Caesarean section lists and emergency obstetric activity.
- Have responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care and carry out all relevant forms of care for patients undergoing surgery.
- Have a detailed knowledge of instrumentation and equipment which allows him/her to scrub and circulate for surgical procedures in the Maternity Theatres and other specialities. Have responsibility for the teaching of qualified and unqualified staff including basic and post-basic learners.
- Rotate to other peri-operative areas at intervals to suit the department and to keep up to date with policies and practices in other areas.
- Understand and work within the Philosophy of Care in the Maternity Unit at the Chelsea & Westminster Healthcare NHS Trust.

- Demonstrable post experience at Band 5 in varying specialities, including Obstetrics and Gynaecology
- To be able to demonstrate an understanding of theory and relevant practical expertise in all areas of theatre practice.
