Job summary
The Specialist Nurse in the Child Development service will work as part of the CDS Team, comprised of Paediatricians, Psychologists, Therapists and Administrators, to provide specialist service provision for children and young people with special and additional needs including complex neurodevelopmental difficulties. The specialist nurses are key members of the Child Development service contributing to service delivery, supporting parents, carers, and children, when referred, and throughout their journey within the service.
This is supported by well-established service care pathways. The specialist nursing team provides integral support to children and families on the preschool, ASD social communication pathway. The Specialist nurse will work in conjunction with parents, cares, statutory and non-statutory agencies to ensure a holistic approach to assessment and intervention.
Main duties of the job
To receive referrals within the specialty from the health care team and respond to requests for expert advice and guidance.
Assist with Triaging of children referred to the Cheyne Child Development service to contribute with the initial assessment for children in the community setting and providing families.
Support to children , and families , to help them negotiate their journey through the Child Development service.
Liaise and work with nursing staff and wider professional network , in assessing health needs and encouraging appropriate referrals.
Provide nursing follow up through phone calls, clinic attendance, and home visits, as appropriate, to support the management of children with disabilities/ special needs.
