Job summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team within our Neonatal Intensive Care environment at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
The NICU at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital is a state-of-the-art, purpose-built 36-cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that provides level 3 medical and surgical care to babies using its recently redeveloped world-class facilities.
We are looking to recruit a motivated member of staff willing to provide energy and enthusiasm to drive Neonatal service delivery forward. We are seeking an individual who shares our vision and values and who is interested in further developing a career in the speciality.
Main duties of the job
Neonatal Clinical Care
- Assessment and stabilisation of newborn
- NLS provider certified
- Ordering of diagnostic procedures and interpretation of results
- Diagnosis of newborn conditions
- Planning appropriate management and treatment with multi-disciplinary team
- Carrying our treatment/ emergency procedures
- Evaluation of care, review and follow up
Leadership
- Participation in Quality improvement projects
- Coordination of care given to group of patients utilizing excellent team-working skills as necessary.

- Involvement in teaching either in nursing or medical teams.

Research
- Active participation in research activities.
- Leading research projects.
Clinical
- Attend high risk deliveries and initiate resuscitation of the newborn using specialist clinical judgement and highly specialist resuscitation skills, thereby undertaking the role usually undertaken by the Medical Staff.
- Participate in the management and continuity of care for babies requiring intensive care, high dependency care, special care, transitional care and post-natal care.
- As an independent nurse/supplementary prescriber and working to set protocols, initiate drug therapy and intravenous fluids, including parenteral nutrition and blood or volume expanders.
- Co-ordinate the care of the sick neonate by applying specialist clinical theoretical knowledge: This incorporates the following:
- Undertaking laboratory investigations and interpreting results Independently initiating and managing all modes of ventilation under support fromthe Senior Registrar or Consultant Neonatologist Requesting diagnostic investigations Requesting and interpreting X-Rays Undertaking invasive procedures as outlined in the ANNP competency document .Respond to neonatal emergencies and deliver advance neonatal resuscitation if required.
- Provide clinical support for new junior doctors and senior nursesMaintain accurate clinical records.
- Take the initiative in discharge planning; perform discharge examinations of infants and liaise with general practitioners and other members of the multidisciplinary team when appropriate.
- Maintain close liaison with senior medical staff and Sisters regarding the management of babies in all areas.
- Lead neonatal transfers and undertake referrals when required.
