Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed West London Children's Healthcare which is transforming care for children across north and west London.

The post-holder will hold responsibility for ensuring West London Children's Hospital services are financially well-led, and that the clinical activity and income of the organisation's services are accurately reflected. The post-holder will support where required with the day to day management of the children's hospital, including medical and surgical services, as well as an A&E and paediatric community child development service. We work closely with the ICB on a number of strategically critical workstreams such as mental health and transitional services for children through the West London Children's Healthcare collaborative.

Our services have received significant investment over the past three years and we are looking for an exceptional candidate to join our high performance team.

Main duties of the job

West London Children's Healthcare has three Clinical Directorates: General and Acute Medicine and Surgery; Critical Care and Medical Specialties and Child Development Services and Neurology. This Service Manager post is responsible for supporting these directorates at our Chelsea and Westminster, West Middlesex and St Mary's hospital campuses:

This role will work in partnership with an expert MDT triumvirate to deliver all aspects of operational leadership and the management for all elements of service delivery to ensure high quality patient care and experience.

About us

In 2018, Chelsea & Westminster NHS Foundation Trust, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London stated their intent to collaborate on the development of an integrated care system for paediatric services spanning West London.

West London Children's Healthcare will unite paediatric services from across West London together into hubs that link closely together to support clinical care provision, research, education and training. The hubs will be networked with referral hospitals and primary care networks to optimise local care wherever possible for children whatever complex healthcare needs they have and to facilitate a population health approach.

Over 1500 staff across 4 hospital sites with a bed base of 296 will come together to deliver £100m+ paediatric services providing over 115,000 outpatient attendances and 16,000 elective procedures annually, with the aim of improving the health and well-being of the almost half a million children and young people who live in west London.

Job responsibilities

The Service Manager will work closely and in partnership with other members of the Directorates management team, in particular Service Directors and Matrons, to achieve agreed performance, financial productivity targets and clinical quality indicators.

The Service Manager will assist the Deputy General Manager, General Manager and the Service Directors in the delivery of objectives across the Directorate as well as directly managing mutually agreed projects and service improvement initiatives.

The Service Manager will have overall responsibility for the management of the Directorates administrative processes, line managing teams of A & C staff.

The Service Manager will support Service Directors with the management of effective deployment of medical staff.

Where appropriate, the Service Manager will work with peers based on other Trust sites to share learn and drive consistency of clinical practice, business processes and reporting.

The Service Manager will ensure that line management of his or her staff is undertaken professionally and that each member of staff has an appraisal and development and training plan consistent with Directorate, Division and Trust objectives.
