Job summary
The Senior Midwife in the Antenatal Clinic will lead and oversee midwifery services, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care for expectant mothers and their families. This role involves providing comprehensive antenatal care, coordinating complex cases, managing clinic workflows, and supporting junior staff development. The Senior Midwife will also play a key role in interdisciplinary collaboration to deliver person-centred care tailored to each patient's medical, emotional, and social needs.
Main duties of the job
Provide skilled and compassionate antenatal care, including routine assessments, screenings, and consultations. Manage complex cases, ensuring continuity of care.
Supervise and mentor midwives and support staff, fostering professional growth and a positive clinic environment. Allocate resources and staff schedules to optimize patient care and clinic efficiency.
Empower and educate expectant mothers on pregnancy, birth preparation, and postpartum care. Offer guidance on lifestyle, nutrition, mental health, and physical health throughout pregnancy.
Identify, assess, and manage potential risks during pregnancy. Escalate complex cases to obstetricians and other specialists as needed, ensuring timely and appropriate interventions.
Develop, implement, and monitor clinical protocols to meet regulatory standards and improve patient outcomes. Conduct audits, maintain accurate records, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Work closely with obstetricians, paediatricians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to create coordinated care plans, especially for high-risk pregnancies.
Advocate for patient choices and informed consent, respecting cultural, personal, and medical preferences. Address concerns and ensure a positive clinic experience.
